Touch Interfaces for Computers

I spotted an interesting tactile new interface while reading Acoustic sensors make surfaces interactive.

I prefer Jeff Han’s Multi-Touch Sensing

I have been using a qwerty keyboard for about 23 years (since I was 6) .. I think it’s time for a change. I really like the Jeff Han style interface, this would change the office desk into something more ergonomic. Keyboards still have their place, but the merging of the Mouse (now fingers on the screen) and your monitor provides an easier way of performing tasks (think websurfing or email).

Although computer programming with esoteric characters would be quite difficult and impractical (e.g. @, #, $% ) to say, so a keyboard is probably still a good option for that task. But many others could benefit from touch screen alone.

There is still no “Star Trek” Utopian talking interface (although apparently Dragon Naturally speaking is pretty good). An improved interface would be the Jeff Han pointing interface, coupled with a Voice Recognition application for the typing part (the actual email content).
