Portable Computing : Palm Tungsten T5
Finally, I procured a replacement Palm for my broken hand-me-down Handera. I am quite pleased with the replacement/upgrade.
I did read some scathing reviews (on Amazon and a couple of others), but I was determined to buy after seeing the specs:
- Acts like USB drive (160MB of actual space, no drivers to install for windows 2000 and xp)
- Nice colour stretch screen (which can flip to landscape)
- Bluetooth (Which I finally configured, so I can dial from address book)
- MP3 player (one review said 6 hours continuous play !)
It has expansion slot for SD memory (which are up to 1 Gigabyte now I think). This is good for uni or work documents, and of course MP3 or two.
There is a quantum leap between the Handera and the T5 (I got the Handera two years ago, and even then it was old) . We can put this down to a few things like better OS version, Faster Processor, Colour screen and improved Palm Apps.
Even though I bought in December ‘04, a month after release. I got a really good deal at Calculator King. I am not sure how something that retails for $749AUD, can be sold for $590AUD 1 month after release , but I am not going to complain.
The today calendar view, shows upcoming appointments and todays tasks, all in the one easy to view page. This almost does away with “Weekly Plan” that I bought a year ago to do a similar thing.
So .. I think it was worth the money. It’s good to be able to back up your contacts and diary with the click of the hotsync cable.
